Take one certified Notts legend (Nail Tolliday of Bent and sometime Sleaford Mods collaborator) and one preeminent Notts genius (Asa Hudson of Asa) and you get this psychedelic masterpiece and masterclass in finding the golden mean of rough-yet-intricate, spacy soundsapes and genuine pop songcraft! The sound, while very much their own, is somewhat akin to William Onyeabor covering Serge Gainsbourg, Baxter Dury produced by Beck, or a very weird Eels/Flaming Lips collab. On their impressively confounding but wildly enjoyable debut, Champyun Clouds take us on a journey through the lands of lo-fi disco, hip hop beats, swirling robotic harmonies, Pizzicato Five-esque interludes, extremely funky basslines and hazy analogue synths before ending on a more meditative and gentle (but still bonkers) note.
